ROCK THE WINTER BLUES: Screening of Two Trains Runnin’

Two Trains Runnin’, narrated by Oscar winner Common, is the fascinating and entertaining documentary about two trios of music fans who, coincidentally, both drove to Mississippi in 1964 in the heat of the Freedom Summer looking for a famous blues musician. With few leads to go on, the group from Boston and New York was in search of Son House, while the California trio was trying to find Skip James. Neither musician had been seen in decades since producing seminal early blues records. With new music from artists like Gary Clark Jr. and Lucinda Williams mixing with classic blues tracks of the early 20th century, Two Trains Runnin’ shows how these naïve blues enthusiasts helped a new generation learn about an important era in American music, at the same time the country was reaching a turning point in the civil rights movement with the passage of the Civil Rights Act and the backlash in the Jim Crow South.
