Rachel Allen- Pottery with a Twist

Friday, May 22, 2015
9:00 am - 4:00 pm

This exhibition makes clear the difference between mass produced perfection and an item which is pursuing something distinctive. Master potter Rachel Allen strives to create work which is a balance between function and form. To Allen, pieces, such as cups, must be both functional and visually stimulating. Recently, this has meant moving away from round. She has manipulated forms to give them a volume which is very different from what can be found at any housewares store. Each piece pushes further from the perfect white bowls that we find in every restaurant, cupboard, and big box store.

This exhibition runs April 26, 2015 – May 31, 2015 on Monday – Thursday 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM, Fridays 9:00 AM – 4:00 AM, Sundays 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

This event is part of ARTSEE, a festival showcasing new works of art throughout Westchester County in celebration of ArtsWestchester’s 50th anniversary.
