Poetry Reading: Jill Bialosky

Jill Bialosky will read on November 8th from her latest poetry collection The Players (Knopf, 2015).  The event will include audience Q&A, reception and book signing. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Bialosky has made her home in New York City since completing her advanced writing degrees at Johns Hopkins and the University of Iowa’ s Writers Workshop.  She is the author of four poetry collections, three novels, and a best-selling memoir.  Her poems are plain-spoken and restrained, yet tenderly lyrical. In them she deftly touches on some of the heart’s deepest concerns, such as mothering and familial memory. Her books receive consistently warm praise: “a sun-spangled and deep-shadowed collection” says Booklist of The Players; “the wanderings and wonderings of the very private, usually unheard mind,” says Mary Oliver; “I was both riveted and moved,” says Philip Schultz. Bialosky has been published in The New Yorker, The American Poetry Review, The Nation, the Paris Review, and The New Republic, among others,  and she is the recipient of many awards, including the Elliot Coleman Award for Poetry. She is an Executive Editor at W. W. Norton & Company.
