Planetarium Opening

See a million stars in the Hudson River Museum’s new, state-of-the-art, digital Planetarium. The Museum’s Planetarium is the only public planetarium between New York City and Albany, and will resume regularly scheduled shows on Saturdays and Sundays at 12:30, 2 and 3:30 pm starting Saturday, March 8.

12:30 pm – Earth, Moon, and Sun

Join Coyote (adapted from American Indian oral traditions) in a fast-paced and fun show that explores lunar phases, eclipses, and other puzzles. Engaging and immersive, this show examines how humans learn through space exploration. 26 Minutes

The 12:30 screening is geared toward younger school-age children to inspire these youngest future astronomers to want to learn more about the skies.

2 pm – The Sky Tonight

A LIVE tour of the skies as seen from Earth – without city lights! The new digital planetarium extends our exploration beyond Earth to view what lies behind the night sky. Includes constellations, the visible planets, and recent discoveries. 45 – 60 Minutes, ages 8+

The 2 pm Live Demonstration in the Planetarium is an interactive show on what the sky is like TONIGHT (the evening of the program). The Planetarium’s new Megastar optical projector presents 10 million stars and the dazzling SkyScan digital projectors transport you anywhere in the universe.

3:30 pm – Undiscovered Worlds: The Search Beyond Our Sun

Through the discovery of exoplanets—the hundreds of planets that orbiting stars beyond the sun—we learn that our solar system is not alone in the universe. New technology and recent endeavors like the Kepler Telescope have aided the discovery of exoplanets that brings us closer to the possibility of finding an Earth-like world. How will our view of our place in the universe change?  Ages 8+, 30 minutes

The 3:30 pm screening is for more mature audiences, including children age 8 and up. Shows screened at this time explore more complex scientific content, while drawing you into the action.
