Eric Person Big Band

Eric Person is setting a new standard in sound. For over twenty years, Eric has been committed to composing, recording and performing contemporary American music. He plays the alto and soprano saxophones and flute and is featured as a leader and sideman on more than 30 recordings. His broad range of experience with Dave Holland, McCoy Tyner, Chico Hamilton, Ronald Shannon Jackson, the World Saxophone Quartet, and John Hicks, have all contributed greatly to his mature alto and soprano sound and his skills as an arranger and composer.

Eric released his debut album Arrival in 1993. It was an auspicious beginning which paved the way for eight more CDs which show continuing development in music, as documented by rave reviews in Downbeat magazine and a string of critical praise:

•  Russ Musto of All About Jazz magazine stated “Eric Person is more than fine; he’s a major talent of his generation.”
•  Bill Milkowski of Jazztimes called Eric a “risk-taking improviser, accomplished composer and inveterate swinger.”
•  Thomas R. Erdmann of jazzreview.com stated: “As a leader Person’s recordings have not only garnered great reviews but have shown Person to be a questing soul who exchanges the path well tread in favor of pushing his own limits.”
•  Donald Elfman of All About Jazz says: “saxophonist Eric Person seems to find something new to say and a different direction to follow with every project he undertakes.”

Eric Person’s 2012 release Thoughts on God features an ensemble of thirteen musicians playing a suite of twelve compositions that glorify the creator. Michael McDowell of Blitz Magazine says, ” Eric Person has definitely joined Coltrane in having produced an enduring work that will stand as a hallmark of the genre.”

PJS is thrilled to welcome the debut of the Eric Person Big Band on our stage!
