Annette St. John

Annette St. John takes the mike and captivates. Subtle shades of Sarah, a hint of Ella, but with a style and sparkle that’s uniquely her own, Annette’s extensive repertoire includes jazz standards, ballads and the blues. Now she’s hushed, now she’s joyous, now she’s romantic, now she’s singing with a twinkle in her voice. Personable, vivacious, she makes instant rapport, sings to your heart, and speaks to your soul.

Annette St. John says, “I am a native New Yorker. Born and raised in Harlem.” Now she lives in Mount Vernon. “I always wanted to be a performer, but fell and love and got married so I put my musical ambitions on the back burner at that time.” She believes her voice is a gift from God. “I consider myself a natural singer. I didn’t go to school to learn how to sing. However, I took workshops, and studied at JazzMobile and wherever I can get a taste of what I am looking for musically. I also work with the New York Jazz Academy at St Peter’s Church. I like to keep myself and my music fresh.” St. John’s talents have earned her stints at famous clubs such as Sweewaters, The Blue Note, The Cotton Club, The Apollo Theater, The Village Vanguard, Londell’s, Tavern on the Green, Showman’s, Birdland, The Europa Club, The Sugar Bar, Cajun and the American Legion in Harlem. Annette has worked with musicians and vocalists the likes of Della Griffin, Lonnie Youngblood, Irene Reed, Fred Staton, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Seleno Clark, Nate Lucas, the late great Etta Jones, Doc Pittman and Jimmy Butts.

She made her PJS debut in 2007. Join us as Annette St. John returns to PJS with a swinging band including of Radam Schwartz on Hammond B3; Bill Moring on Bass; Willie Martinez on Drums; and Elijah Shiffer on Sax.

PJS is thrilled to welcome Annette St. John back to our stage!
