Theofanidis: Dreamtime Ancestors (NY Premiere*)
Shostakovich: Cello Concerto No. 1
Beethoven: Symphony No. 4

To open our 33rd season and Jaime Laredo‘s second as Principal Conductor, we’ve invited Sharon Robinson, who with husband Laredo comprise two-thirds of the renowned Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, for the towering Shostakovich. We also proudly premiere a new work by acclaimed composer Christopher Theofanidis, whose music has been described as “unabashedly joyful” (Boston Globe), “rapturous” (Houston Chronicle), and “lyrical, exotic soul-searching” (New York Times). Hector Berlioz once described the second movement Adagio of Beethoven’s Fourth as composed not by any human, but an angel.

*Dreamtime Ancestors has been co-commissioned by 48 regional orchestras across the country participating in the New Music for America consortium, which supports sequential performances of the work through 2017. The consortium is made possible with support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
