Your Repetitive View by Olafur Eliasson
Ribbon Cutting & Reception @ 1:00PM
Riverfront Green

Olafur Eliasson is a Danish-Icelandic artist currently residing in Berlin. He founded the Institute for Spatial Experiments (Institut für RaumexperimenteIfREX), which opened within his studio building in April 2009, and is currently a professor at the Berlin University of the Arts.  In his installation for Peekskill Project 6, Your Repetitive View“, Olafur Eliasson has devised a site-specific installation piece that sets simple reality against kaleidoscopic expanses of illusion. It isolates patches of sky and river, tree and human, integrating and registering all as one, framed and repeated many times over. The central construction is raised, mirrors are added to the lining and it is set in a room like storage facility. A symbiosis is created between landscape and invention, between the natural and the narrative.
The installation of Your Repetitive View was made possible through the generous contributions of the Lanza Family Foundation.

LIFE by Peter Bynum
Ribbon Cutting & Reception @ 2:00PM
Between 150 North Water Street & The Peekskill Brewery

Peter Bynum is known for his light-infused sculptural paintings, which have electrified the art world from his native New York to Shanghai. Bynum’s installation, “LIFE”,  intends to continue the beautification of the City of Peekskill by referring to the natural environment and the interconnections of all that is in existence. Bynum’s installation is part of HVCCA’s continued series of installations along the waterfront, bringing contemporary art out of the museum and into the community while representing the rising artistic community of the city of Peekskill.
The installation of LIFE was made possible through the generous contributions of the Lanza Family Foundation, Dylan’s Wine Cellar, Birdsall House, Gleason’s Pub, Mayor Emerita of the City of Peekskill Mary F. Foster, Diamond Properties, LLC, Brendon & Lindsey Fitzgerald, Chuck & Carol Newman, Dain’s Lumber, Seekircher Steel Windows, the Marc & Livia Straus Foundation, New York State Council on the Arts, ArtsWestchester, The City of Peekskill, and the Peekskill Brewery.

Welcome Stranger by Saskia Janssen & George Korsmit
Live Performances & Reception @ 3:00PM
Gateway Park, Main Street

Saskia Janssen & George Korsmit, the dynamic Dutch artist duo, present the official opening of their installation, Welcome Stranger.  Saskia Janssen is a visual artist who lives and works in Amsterdam with her partner and fellow artist, George KorsmitSaskia & George present “Welcome Stranger,”  an installation which functions dually as a stage and as a billboard. This installation connects to the social history of Peekskill, referring to the safe houses of the Underground Railroad and to the Peekskill Riot, 1949, and offers possibilities for the community of Peekskill to participate and engage with art. The welcoming stage and background mirroring the sky also refer to famous musician, actor and activist, Paul Robeson, and more playfully to the Peekskill Meteorite. The stage is meant to be used by all, hence the name, for music, performances, dance, readings, meditations, and more. On November 1st performers collaborate with the artists’ installation as part of the second opening for Peekskill Project 6. The backside of the stage functions as a billboard, with a protective, covered “secret space.” The installation is in close proximity to the residential community, allowing the residents to activate the artwork in a significant way.

The installations by Saskia Janssen & George Korsmit were made possible by the generous contribution of Dutch Culture USA, the Consulate General of the Netherlands, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Mondriaan Foundation.
