Orpheus Chamber Orchestra with Vadim Gluzman

Audience favorite Orpheus returns to The PAC on February 5, joined by Israeli violinist Vadim Gluzman, whose extraordinary artistry harks back to the glorious violin tradition of the 19th and 20th centuries. When the Ukrainian-born Israeli violinist appeared with Orpheus in 2011, The New York Times praised a performance that “balanced thoughtfulness and visceral power.”

The program begins with Mendelssohn’s symphonic recollections of Scotland filling the concert hall with splashes of local color and long lost folk melodies, while composer Michael Hersch reflects on sketches by artist Kevin Tuttle as he processes the impacts of physical illness and mortality. The afternoon concludes with the orchestra’s first-ever rendition of Tchaikovsky’s sweeping Violin Concerto; Gluzman will be performing on the very same 1690 ‘ex-Leopold Auer’ Stradivarius for which the concerto was composed.
