ORPHEUS CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

Jan Vogler, cello, and Mira Wang, violin

Some musical partnerships are so powerful that the names become synonymous. Think of Lincoln Center and one thinks of the New York Philharmonic. What would Preservation Hall in New Orleans be without the jazz band of the same name? The Waldorf Astoria: for many years it was home to Guy Lombardo’s orchestra. We at The Center feel that way about Orpheus, now in their 5th decade and eternally without a conductor. Their recitals are clever, compassionate, and unabashedly creative, and they’ve been a part of us for so long that a season just wouldn’t be a season without them.

Program:

MENDELSSOHN A Midsummer Night’s Dream

SCHUMANN Symphony No. 2 in C Major, Op. 61

WOLFGANG RIHM Concerto for Violin and Cello (World Premiere)
