Orchestra Concert


All are music lovers are welcome, from the young to the young at heart, to the Westchester Amateur Musicians Orchestra fall concert at the Ossining Public Library on 9/28 at 2 pm. This concert features the soloist Mira Gill in a performance of the Beethoven Piano Concert, movement 1. Conductor Willian Eckfeld will lead the group in additional music by Beethoven (Symphony No 1) as well as Mozart (Overture Abduction from the Seraglio), Berlioz (Hungarian March) and Handy (St. Louis Blues). This concert is FREE.

The Westchester Amateur Musicians Orchestra (WAMO) has been delighting Westchester audiences with its performances  for over 10 years. Created to be a safe space for adults to regain their love of music and performance, the group is the oldest no-audition orchestra in the county. The 50+ members of WAMO invite you to come and join them any time. You are never too old to start playing again. The group rehearses on Mondays at the Ethical Culture Nursery School in White Plains. Conductor William Eckfeld was the orchestra director at White Plains High School from 1987-2013. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, where he studied with the renowned bassist Oscar Zimmerman, he was a member of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra before beginning his career in music education. He has also studied conducting and composition at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Graz, Austria and has earned a Masters Degree in teaching from Lehman College, where he studied composition with John Corigliano. As a composer, he has written numerous works for chamber groups, soloists, and orchestras. He has served as president of the Greater Westchester Youth Orchestra Association and the Westchester County School Music Association, and has been a guest conductor of festival orchestras in Westchester and Rockland counties. He serves as organist for the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in New Rochelle and is principal bass and assistant conductor of the St. Thomas Orchestra.
