June 11 – 14: Lovers and Exotic Strangers: A Reading of Four Original One-Act Plays presented by Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT)

 

Ossining, NY – On Thursday, June 11; Friday, June 12; Saturday, June 13 at 8pm; and Sunday June 14 at 3pm, Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT) is presenting Lovers and Exotic Strangers, a reading of four original one-act plays that take unexpected twists and turns as they explore love and loss in a variety of unusual relationships. Lin Snider will direct. Sunday’s performance will be followed by a talkback session with the playwrights, director and cast. The performances take place at the Steamer Company Firehouse, 117 Main Street, 2nd Floor, Ossining, NY 10562. Tickets are $10 and available through Brown Paper Tickets, http://wctjuneprs15.bpt.me/. The plays were developed through WCT workshops, an interactive laboratory for writers and actors.

 

In Albi Gorn’s The Ex-factor, love, sex and culture clashes provoke some heady and comic issues. Hastings-on-Hudson resident Gorn is an award-winning playwright (Strawberry Festival, Aery 20/20, finalist in the Samuel French Festival and the All-England Theatre Festival). His plays were staged at the NYC Fringe Festival in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

 

Carol Mark’s Indelible, shows what can happen when a routine subway ride turns into something entirely different. (Ridgefield, CT resident) Mark has had full-length and one-act plays produced at WCT, Shades Repertory Theater, Ridgefield Theater Barn, Spring Street Arts Center and many other venues.

 

Gabrielle Fox’s The Second Coming shows what could result if a doomsday practice drill in a suburban survival bunker was interrupted by the rapture. Fox (of Mt. Kisco) is a faculty member at Axial Theatre where she teaches playwriting. She won the Outstanding Playwriting and Overall Production awards for The Home in the 2014 Planet Connections Theatre Festivity and the Planet Activist award.

 

Pat O’Connor’s Terminal Love, a new take on boy meets girl, explores multiple types of blindness and sight.(Montrose resident) O’Connor’s plays have been featured at WCT, Arts on the Lake’s Home Grown Plays, the Pound Ridge Theatre, Shades Repertory Theater, Aery 20/20 Festival and Manhattan Repertory Theater.

 

Lin Snider is a professional director (SDC) and singer/actress (AEA, SAG) who has worked as a director and teacher for 20 years and has performed on stage in regional theaters, Off-Broadway and in the National Tour of Anything Goes with Mitzi Gaynor as well as in cabarets, TV, and on film. She has been the artistic director of the Yeshiva College Dramatic Society for nine years, has directed two AEA Showcases for the Out of the Box Theatre Company as well as productions at AADA, NYU (CAP 21), SUNY/Purchase, TADA! and the Westchester Arts Council. She is a founding member of WCT.

 

The cast features: Femi Alao (Ossining), Jim Brownold (Ardsley), Marilyn Collazo (Ossining), Tim Harbolic (Buchanan), Elaine Hartel (Ossining), Deacon Hoy (Mahopac), Shelley Lerea (Bedford Hills), Eric Marks (White Plains), Tracey McAllister (Ossining), Pat O’Neill (Somers), Dianne Pennington (Yorktown Heights), Matt Silver (Croton), and Howard Weintraub (White Plains).

 

The Westchester Collaborative Theater is a multicultural, cooperative theater company located in Ossining, NY, dedicated to developing new work for the stage and bringing live theater to our community. It is composed of local playwrights, actors, and directors who employ a lab approach in which new stage works are nurtured through an iterative process of readings, critiques, and rewrites. When work is ready for production, it is produced for the public at various local venues.

 

WCT is committed to furthering theater arts in our community. It is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and a recipient of production grants from ArtsWestchester and New York State Council on the Arts.

 

This reading is part of ArtsWestchester’s ARTSEE program for promoting the arts throughout the region.
