On Ramps, Off Ramps, and Line Breaks: A Craft talk with Julie E. Bloemeke (via Zoom)

How do poets implement line breaks to establish immediacy and verisimilitude in a poem?  In revision, how does the poet know when end words start to feel self-conscious?  How do poem openings and closings work together to both invite in and send off the reader?  How do line lengths serve to create conversation within the poem?  Join us as we look at a suite of contemporary poems that make us rethink how openings, closings, and line breaks can propel the work forward.  Please bring a notebook and pen; part of our time together will be devoted to a generative exercise designed to experiment with fresh ideas about how lines can work.

NB: This workshop will be taught via Zoom. Class is capped at 17 students. The Zoom link will be sent at the time of registration and again in the days before class. Please check spam filter and email ask@writerscenter.org if you have not received the link.
