Last season’s premiere of Nutcracker Dreamat the Emelin Theatre was such a phenomenal success – garnering rousing applause in four sold-out performances – that this coming season the Emelin Theatre and Ballet des Amériques will double the number of performances.

Inspired by the work of Marius Petipa and Rudolf Nureyev, Alexis’ Nutcracker Dream is a one-hour family friendly adaptation of America’s seasonal favorite. Professional dancers from Ballet des Amériques perform the featured roles of the ballet, while additional roles will be cast by audition Saturday, September 28 from 10am to 1:30pm at the Emelin Theatre for the Performing Arts.

The Emelin Theatre is thrilled to bring this professional adaptation of the beloved ballet into its second season for the enjoyment of family audiences throughout Westchester. As the Emelin’s Executive Director Elliot Fox, explains, “I am truly proud of the collaboration we established with Ballet des Amériques last year and look forward to continuing our work together. Nutcracker Dreamis a beautiful interpretation of a classic work that delighted audiences with its artistry and storytelling.  We are adding more performances this year and I can’t wait to share it again with our families and patrons during the holiday season.”

Carole Alexis, for her part, explains that her interest in creating Nutcracker Dreamis to bring families and friends together around the essence of what the story represents, namely, the beautiful balance between Marie’s childhood playfulness and her coming of age in the midst of her own circle of family and friends – an objective that dovetails nicely with the Emelin’s programming.

Under the directorship of French-American choreographer Carole Alexis, Ballet des Amériques, has been staging productions at the Emelin Theatre since 2012. Proclaimed “Westchester’s Premier Dance Company” by the County Executive and recently voted “Best Ballet Company” by the editors of Westchester Magazine, Ballet des Amériques is committed to developing inclusive dance audiences through choreography and performances of the highest quality. Ballet des Amériques is proud to take its Nutcracker Dream on international tour following the productions at the Emelin.
