New Westchester Symphoney & Friends

Untermyer Performing Arts Council’s World Fest 2019

New Westchester Symphony Orchestra and Friends

7:30 pm Saturday, August 10th 2019 at Saunders High School

183 Palmer Road, Yonkers

A volunteer ensemble, New Westchester Symphony Orchestra (NewWSO) was founded November 2011 by music lovers to create an exciting opportunity for people in the Westchester County area. They gathered instrumentalists of any age and ability to play to practice and perform significant orchestral and ensemble works. The repertoire, drawn from original orchestrations of the greatest works in music history, is carefully selected to suit the wide range of skill level of the members, from the very basic to more challenging pieces.

NewWSO has appeared throughout Westchester County at venues as varied as concert halls to assisted living facilities. Much of their annual schedule is dedicated to outreach concerts; they take pride in bringing great music to people who might not otherwise be able to travel to a performance.  NewWSO is living proof that good music can be played by anyone, for everyone.

Their multitalented conductor Benjamin Niemczyk also is a singer and arranger of uncommon range.  Additionally, he conducts the New York Session Symphony, Westchester Oratorio Society, Westchester Choral Artists, and is Director of Music at St Boniface Oratory Church in Brooklyn. Niemczyk has performed at Radio City Music Hall and the United Nations General Assembly with Anthony Newman, Hélène Grimaud and Ennio Morricone.  Other notables with whom he has performed are Stanley Drucker, Stephen Schwartz, Marin Alsop, James Kennerley, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Strathmere Ensemble, Music of the Baroque, and the Brooklyn Philharmonic.  He has held administrative positions with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Grant Park Orchestra, Canticum Novum Singers, New York Virtuoso Singers and C4 (of which he is a founding member).

Niemczyk is no stranger to the small and silver screens, and has appeared in My Best Friend’s Wedding, 48 Hours Mystery and Mozart in the Jungle.

This celebration of international music will be another “don’t miss” Untermyer Performing Arts Council program under the stars!

The Untermyer Performing Arts Council is an all-volunteer group that brings diverse, professional programs to the people of Yonkers and beyond.  Formed more than forty years ago, we have brought free entertainment to Untermyer Park each one of those years.

This program, done in cooperation with Mayor Mike Spano and the Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, was made possible by ArtsWestchester with support from the Westchester County Government and the City of Yonkers.  The Empire City Casino, Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins, Senator Shelley Mayer and our many generous supporters provided additional support for this program.
