Monday Night Poetry Workshop with Patrick Donnelly (via Zoom)

This class will be taught on Zoom and capped at 10. Link will be sent to email you use to register at the time of registration and again the day before the class. Please make sure to read our course policies page regarding workshop conduct and logistics before registering for any class at HVWC. Scholarship information will be available for this class on November 15th and applications are due on December 15, 2022.

6:30 – 9:00, May 1 – June 12 (no class on May 29 for Memorial Day).

We’ll gather to consider poems that you’ve already written, an opportunity to receive response and to give it. Our goal is to become the best “noticers” we can be, “people on whom nothing is lost,” as Henry James put it. Our primary purpose is more practice developing and articulating our thoughts about other people’s poems, so we might turn the same skilled, discerning eye on our own work. If my experience at HVWC is any indication, we’ll probably get silly, be swept by occasional fits of giggling, and enjoy the heck out of each other’s company. But we’ll also gather, as peers at different levels, to give each participant the closest, most honest and generous readings possible. My goal is to give you the encouragement necessary to stay engaged with a process that is often enjoyable, but which is also real work, in the most satisfying and transformative sense.
