Memoir Into Make-Believe: Turning Your Life Into Children’s Fiction (via Zoom)

Memoir Into Make-Believe:  Turning Your Life Into Children’s Fiction

Do you love writing for kids, but sometimes need fresh ideas? Maybe you want to get into children’s/YA writing, but don’t know where to start. How about your own memories? In this two-hour generative workshop, you’ll begin with a prompt to spark a short memoir piece. Then, you’ll transform that piece into fiction for young readers. You’ll learn how altering story elements such as conflict, point of view, gender, and event outcomes can result in a work of new fiction. New and experienced writers welcome.

Tina Tocco‘s work for kids has appeared in Highlights, Highlights High Five, Cricket, AppleSeeds, Humpty Dumpty, Cadet Quest, Pockets, and other children’s publications. In addition to the HVWC, Tina teaches both teens and adults for various organizations, including GrubStreet, Arts Escape, Kids Short Story Connection, and SCBWI-Westchester. She holds an MFA in creative writing from Manhattanville College.

This workshop will be taught via Zoom. The Zoom link will be sent at the time of registration and again in the day before class. Please email admin@writerscenter.org with any questions. Registration is $124 at:
