Masquerade Gala for the Benefit of the Dance Company of Ballet des Amériques

Patrons of the arts are invited to celebrate the achievements and support the mission of Ballet des Amériques – the “Ballet of the Americas” – a rising force in New York’s dance scene. Join our guest of honor, the Deputy Consul General of France, Mr. Eric Bayer and other community leaders at the Wainwright House in Rye, New York, on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at 6pm, for a festive masquerade gala dedicated to the art of dance and to cultural diplomacy.

Ballet des Amériques

Established in 2011 under the directorship of French-American choreographer Carole Alexis, Ballet des Amériques, as its name implies, inserts itself into the French cultural heritage of the Americas. Following a thought of Aimée Césaire, this heritage is conceived as drawing on its European and African roots, while being genuinely open to the world and absorbing its rich variety of traditions in a continuous dialogue. On this basis, Ballet des Amériques aims to model a trajectory of developing dance from its classical tradition into a vibrant and relevant future.

Composed of classically trained dancers of diverse backgrounds, the young company has already danced the choreographies of Carole Alexis in over 50 public performances beginning with its debut at the Festival de Fort-de-France in Martinique in 2011. A recent report on French television about Carole Alexis and her company received over 200,000 views on the television channel’s social media site and prompted many viewers to request an international tour. As the resident dance company of the Tarrytown Music Hall, Ballet des Amériques is building on the success of its Evenings of Dance series to develop a regional dance audience in Westchester and neighboring counties. With its local roots and international orientation, the company is poised to grow its audiences beyond dance connoisseurs to reach those who have never been exposed to this art and especially young people, in conscious fulfillment of the educational function of dance in the spirit of Maurice Béjart.

The white tie Gala in the style of a Venetian Masquerade offers guests a chance to meet Director and Choreographer Carole Alexis and her company of dancers in the elegant atmosphere of this waterfront estate, built in the style of a 17th century French chateau, and to support the company’s worthwhile cause. Wine, refreshments and small bites will be served to live musical accompaniment, and ballet dancers can be expected to break into impromptu performances.
