Magician Sammy Cortino

Part Magic Show, Part Rock Concert, Completely Amazing

AS SEEN ON BRAVO TV, SYFY & NBC; Sammy Cortino will change the way you think about magic and show how the world’s oldest art form can not only be amazing, but also rock. Hard. Part magic show, part rock concert; Sammy Cortino has been described as Jimmy Page meets David Blaine. In his 90-minute exploration of magic’s edge, Cortino stuns audiences with never-before-seen feats; like cutting and restoring a cable on a working guitar before jamming to bluesy rock tunes. He attempts a Russian roulette with four Oreos and a razor blade. Delving into the minds of his audience, Cortino also showcases his mastery of mind reading and will even draw a spectator’s thoughts on a sketch pad. This act is turning heads all across the country!

Merging the power of music with the captivating art of magic, Sammy Cortino is spellbinding audiences in ways never conceived. While the general public pairs magic with sequins, blow-dried hair, and rigged box tricks; Cortino amazes audiences in no-nonsense fashion with original feats of the impossible utilizing familiar objects like iPads and guitars as props. In some cases, he’s merely feet away from his audience, making the magic more believable and showgoers a part of the magic. The show is backed to a diverse soundtrack as Cortino storms the stage with charisma and original effects. Be it the ferocity of the clanging guitars of THE STROKES or the melodic wispiness of THE SHINS, music and magic become one in this ground-breaking live experience.

As one of the youngest international magicians in history, Sammy Cortino was identified as “a dedicated student of magic” by Master Magician Lance Burton and is rocking a new generation of audiences with a fresh approach to the art of magic.  His passion for magic was first realized when he “received a magic kit for Christmas at age six. I kept performing and taking it as far as I can while at the same time making it my own.”

He became a fan of David Blaine and heavy rock outfits like Led Zeppelin & Black Sabbath. “I would watch their videos all the time growing up,” Cortino said. “I would emulate them in my talent shows when I was growing up, putting on as many as I could to get started”. On meeting Siegfried & Roy Cortino says, “Seeing them made me want to perfectly execute my own take on magic. Meeting them made pursuing magic that much more accessible.”

Being a rising star is no cakewalk and having a loving support group who will encourage and help is found in Cortino’s family. “My family and girlfriend have always been amazingly supportive of what I do,” he said. “My mom would drive me to all of my early shows because I wasn’t old enough to drive. My acting friends were my first on-stage assistants. My dad would build my props.” When Cortino performs, his “biggest goal is to move the audience. For me, music and magic go hand in hand. The more people are feeling the mood through the music, the more powerful of an impact you can leave.”

As for the future of magic, he wants to see “magic being performed with everyday objects. When you eliminate the boxes and the weird hand movements and do magic with normal, everyday objects when the magic does happen, it surprises people way more because they’re not having to suspend their disbelief and watching the magic objectively. The response to magic is the most powerful that art forms can give,” he said. “It does something to the mind that’s very rare.”

Sammy Cortino will be on stage on Saturday, March 21 at 8:00 PM at the White Plains Performing Arts Center located on the third level of City Center off Mamaroneck Avenue in downtown White Plains. Tickets start at $25.
