The Seven Deadly Sins: Lust

Sunday, April 19, 2015
12:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Lust, specifically as it applies to sexual relations, is here portrayed in overt imagery. Artists create paintings, videos and photographs exploring raw eroticism of a heterosexual, cross gender and homosexual model echoing the rawness of the Kama Sutra. Catherine Opie’s ‘Pieta’ borders on religious ecstasy, while Larry Clark’s ‘Tulsa Series’ documents raw sex within a drug ridden culture of lost youth.  In staging the exhibition at the HVCCA, works are chosen that present this cross section and that speak to a hard edged artistic approach to lust for ‘lust’s sake’ while powerfully portraying that which motivates us to seek the comfort of another.

In addition to the artists listed above included are works by Tony Matelli, Cindy Sherman, Ashley Bickerton, Beatrice Cussol, Entang Wiharso ,and more.

This exhibition will run from February 14, 2015 – December 6, 2015 on Fridays from 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 PM- 6:00 PM, and Tuesdays and Thursdays by appointment.

A closing reception, Sinful Sunday, will be held on July 26th, 3 – 5 pm; the reception will feature open sessions of sketching with a nude model in the center of the Lust show, with a wine coupling lesson with Dylan’s Wine Cellar master, Steve Zwick.

This event is part of ARTSEE, a festival showcasing new works of art throughout Westchester County in celebration of ArtsWestchester’s 50th anniversary.
