Literary Nonfiction Workshop

What is literary nonfiction?

Well it’s essay and memoir and book length “essays.” It’s discursive, personal prose that seeks to look at the minutiae of life and make some structure in it and sense of it (good luck on that, right?—yes, that’s why it’s always an attempt, it doesn’t necessarily have to pin life down. Whoever does?).

So this is a workshop for anyone who wants to try their hand at developing a nonfiction persona. It’s for people who want to learn how to write essays or write them better (with more humor, charm, literary nous); for people who have large or small pieces of memoir to discover how to wrench that material into shape and significance; and it’s a workshop overall—each week we thoughtfully critique the work of several class members in a forum for those writing any nonfiction aspiring to be, well, literary. In other words, Art.

8 Mondays, 1:00 0.m. – 3:00 p.m., 3/02/2015–4/20/2015

Please note that this is an 8 week class.
