Description
The Kids Short Story Connection (KSSC) has been a dynamic part of the Westchester community since it was started in 1994. Its mission was to create a place that would foster the love of writing for enthusiastic young writers from communities throughout Westchester County. This workshop is composed of 10 or less kids and meets six times on alternating Saturdays from 1 pm – 3 pm [over the Zoom platform until further notice].
The workshop includes teens 14 thru 18 years old. It meets with a writer-teacher who cultivates a sense of community among participants, presents a “craft-talk” at the beginning of each session. Young writers are given writing prompts in class, but are encouraged to go “off-prompt” if they have some inner idea percolating. They’re also encouraged to bring and share work created at home. New work is read aloud and fellow students and teachers offer encouragement, appreciation and constructive criticism.
KSSC teachers are writers themselves. They do not just “teach,” they involve students in the entire creative process, all while having fun in a stimulating environment! In KSSC, children feel empowered as writers. Each year we publish an anthology of stories by KSSC participants, so students can actually feel what it’s like to be published writers!
$135 for Greenburgh residents; $160 for non-residents
