Hudson Valley Music Club November Professional Concert


On Monday, November 28 at 1:00 PM, the Hudson Valley Music Club will present a concert by Les Amis d’Ariège Piano Quartet, featuring Mihai Marica, cello, Alex Fortes, violin, Andrius Žlabys, piano, and Nathan Schram, violist. They will perform piano quartets by Sharlat and Faure.

Romanian born cellist Mihai Marica is a First Prize Winner of the Irving M. Klein International Competition and the Dr. Luis Sigall International Competition in Viña del Mar, Chile, and is a recipient of Charlotte White’s Salon de Virtuosi Fellowship Grant. He has performed with orchestras such as the Symphony Orchestra of Chile, Xalapa Symphony in Mexico, the Hermitage State Orchestra of St. Petersburg in Russia, the Jardins Musicaux Festival Orchestra in Switzerland, the Louisville Orchestra, and the Santa Cruz Symphony in the US. Mr. Marica studied with Gabriela Todor in his native Romania and with Aldo Parisot at the Yale School of Music, where he was awarded the Master of Music and Artist Diploma degrees.

Originally from San Diego, violinist Alex Fortes is increasingly being recognized for his versatility and warmth. Recent orchestral and chamber music performances have included performances in Denmark, Austria, and Indonesia as well as throughout the United States with groups such as the Franklin and Momenta string quartets, the Talea ensemble, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Future In REverse (FIRE), and the String Orchestra of New York City.He holds degrees from Harvard College and Mannes College, and his teachers include Mark Steinberg, Peter Zazofsky, Hernan Constantino, Mary Gerard, and Michael Gaisler.

Grammy-nominated pianist Andrius Žlabys has received international acclaim for his appearances with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including The New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Rotterdam Symphony, and Philharmonic Orchestra of Buenos Aires. He is a featured soloist in “Between two Waves” by Victor Kissine for piano and string orchestra released on ECM in 2013 in collaboration with Gidon Kremer and Kremerata Baltica. Andrius Žlabys—born in Lithuania and trained at the Curtis Institute of Music—was 18 years old when the Chicago Tribune wrote: “Pianist-composer Andrius Žlabys is one of the most gifted young keyboard artists to emerge in years.”

Hailed by the New York Times as an “elegant soloist” with a sound “devotional with its liquid intensity,” Nathan Schram is a Brooklyn-based composer, arranger and violist of the Attacca Quartet. Working with many of today’s great composers he has premiered music by Steve Reich, Nico Muhly, Timo Andres, Brooks Frederickson, Elliot Cole and others.Nathan is an Alumnus of Carnegie Hall and Juilliard’s Ensemble ACJW. Nathan is a prizewinner of the 2007 Primrose International Viola competition, the 2006 Corpus Christi Concerto Competition and a First Prize winner of the 2008 ASTA National Solo Competition. He studied at Indiana University with Alan de Veritch and at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofia in Madrid, Spain with Diemut Poppen and Yuval Gotlibovich.
