Hoff-Barthelson Music School’s Flute Orchestra Celebrates 40th Year Anniversary

Public invited to participate in festivities at Flute Plus 40: “Flute Playdate Party”

Hoff-Barthelson Music School’s award-winning Flute Orchestra celebrates their 40th year anniversary at Flute Plus 40 – a “Flute Playdate Party” on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at 1:00 pm, at Hoff-Barthelson Music School, 25 School Lane, Scarsdale. The Flute Orchestra, composed of members of all three of the School’s Flute Clubs, will play favorite selections from their vast library of music for flute choir, as well as compositions written expressly for them. As part of the festivities, members of the flute-playing community are invited to participate in an open sight-reading session, appropriate for every level of flute player from beginner to advanced. Admission to the “Flute Playdate Party” is free of charge.

About the Hoff-Barthelson Music Flute Clubs and Orchestra:
The HBMS Flute Club began forty years ago under the leadership of flutist and teacher Elly Ball with four students as a way for young flute students who met only during the course of competitions, such as All-County and All-State, to meet as friends and musical colleagues. Over the years it has grown and been divided into three groups that now include the high school Flute Club; the Flute Choir, an adult avocational choir; and for younger flutists, the Junior Flutes.

Highlights from the Flute Clubs’ rich 40-year history include appearances by world renowned guest artists at their annual Flute Plus Master Class and Concert – Paula Robison (former HBMS faculty member), Julius Baker, Wissam Boustany, Robert Dick, Flute Force, Michael Parloff, Gary Schocker, Rafaelle Trevisani, Rhonda Larson, Zara Lawler and InSterio;  as well as appearances at the White House, a pre-concert event at Carnegie Hall with James Galway, the Greater Boston Flute Association, New York Flute Club Fair, the Skidmore Flute Institute, and the Florida Flute Fair.

“The greatest achievement of the Flute Club is the number of lasting friendships among former members and with guest artists scattered all over the world,” said Ball.

Donations in support of the Flute Orchestra and their fundraising efforts towards the purchase of a contrabass flute are greatly appreciated. Contributions may be sent to Hoff-Barthelson Music School, Attention: Stephen Jacobsohn, Director of Development and Marketing, 25 School Lane, Scarsdale, NY 10583, or made online by visiting http://hbms.org/donate-here.php.
