About Alessio Bax:
Pianist Alessio Bax creates “a ravishing listening experience” with his lyrical playing, insightful interpretations, and dazzling facility. “His playing quivers with an almost hypnotic intensity,” says Gramophone magazine, leading to what Dallas Morning News calls “an out-of-body experience.” First Prize winner at the Leeds and Hamamatsu international piano competitions—and a 2009 Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient—he has appeared as soloist with over 100 orchestras, including the London and Royal Philharmonic orchestras, the Dallas and Houston Symphonies, the NHK Symphony in Japan, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic with Yuri Temirkanov, and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra with Sir Simon Rattle.

About the Hoff-Barthelson Music School Master Class Series:
Master Class coaching by guest artists has been part of Hoff-Barthelson’s curriculum since the School’s founding in 1944. This distinguished tradition continues this season with a roster of world-class musicians and educators including Pamela Devenport and Alan Harris, cello; Meng-Chieh Liu and Alessio Bax piano; Marin Mazzie, voice; Lucie Robert, violin; Alan Kay, clarinet; Tara Helen O’Connor, flute; and members of the New York Philharmonic.

Master Classes are an enlightening experience for students and audiences alike. After months of careful preparation, students perform for and then receive feedback and guidance from a master teacher who often challenges the student to think in new and critical ways about the piece they’ve prepared. The results are often inspiring and enlightening and serve as a catalyst for students to reach new heights in their own musical explorations.

One of Westchester County’s most cherished and active cultural resources, Hoff-Barthelson Music School has achieved national recognition as a premier community music school for its unsurpassed leadership in education, performance and outreach for more than half a century.

The Hoff-Barthelson Music School Master Class Series is made possible, in part, by ArtsWestchester with support from Westchester County Government, and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
