Hoff-Barthelson Music School HB Artist Series presents Daniel Spitzer, clarinet

An Evening of Jazz and Latin Inspired Works by D’Rivera, Milhaud and Bunch

 Clarinetist Daniel Spitzer is the featured artist for the 2015-2016 Hoff-Barthelson Music School HB Artist Series on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at 5:00 p.m. at the Greenville Community Church, 270 Ardsley Road, Scarsdale.

Mr. Spitzer will be joined by Hoff-Barthelson Music School faculty members, Tomoko Uchino, piano and April Johnson, violin. Also appearing will be guest artist Shi-Ling Shih, piano. Works to be performed include Paquito D’Rivera’s technically and rhythmically complex The Cape Cod Files, written in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the Cape Cod Music Festival; Darius Milhaud’s Suite for Clarinet, Violin and Piano; and Kenji Bunch’s Cookbook for Clarinet and Piano, which explores the parallels between cooking and musical composition.

Admission to the recital is $18, $15 for seniors (65+) and free of charge to HBMS students and students 18 years of age and younger. About Daniel Spitzer:
Clarinetist Daniel Spitzer has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the New York City Ballet, the New Jersey Symphony, the American Symphony Orchestra, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the Riverside Symphony, the New Philharmonic of New Jersey, the Princeton Symphony Orchestra, the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, and in the Broadway pit of the shows On the Town, Wicked, La Bohème, Music Man, The King and I, Beauty and the Beast, The Producers, Woman in White, and Mary Poppins. Daniel was also the clarinetist in the Off-Broadway production of Peter and the Wolf, held at the New Victory Theater, well known for its award-winning children’s programming.

Since 2006, Mr. Spitzer has been a contracted member of both the Delaware Symphony, and the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, with whom he is principal clarinet. He has performed at numerous music festivals including the Chautauqua Music Festival, the New Hampshire Music Festival, Utah Music Festival, the Colorado Music Festival, Spoleto, Aspen, Bowdoin and the Tanglewood Music Festival. He has recorded on the Telarc, New World, Koch, and Newport Classics labels, as well as being heard on National Public Radio.

In the fall of 2010, Daniel joined the Hoff-Barthelson Music School faculty. In 2007, he served as clarinet professor at the Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts and has been on the faculties of the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi State University in Starkville, and Millsaps College in Jackson, MS. Additionally, Mr. Spitzer has taught extensively at the elementary, middle and high school levels throughout the tri-state area, and maintains an active private studio.
