Hoff-Barthelson Music School HB Artist Series presents Carmel Lowenthal, piano

A program of sonatas for piano and violin with guest artist Laura Goldberg

Pianist Carmel Lowenthal is the featured artist for the 2015-2016 Hoff-Barthelson Music School HB Artist Series on Friday, April 8, 2016, at 8:00 p.m., at the Greenville Community Church, 270 Ardsley Road, Scarsdale. Ms. Lowenthal will be joined by guest artist Laura Goldberg, violin.

Ms. Lowenthal and Ms. Goldberg will perform a recital of sonatas for piano and violin that includes the Sonata for Piano and Violin in G Major, KV 301 by W.A. Mozart; Robert Schumann’s impassioned Sonata for Piano and Violin in A minor, Opus 105; and Johannes Brahms’ Sonata for Piano and Violin in G Major, Opus 78.

Admission to the recital is $18, $15 for seniors (65+) and free of charge to HBMS students and students 18 years of age and younger. Tickets to a series of three recitals are available at a reduced rate. Tickets can be ordered any time by calling 914-723-1169 or emailing hb@hbms.org and are available for purchase at the door. About Carmel Lowenthal:
Pianist Carmel Lowenthal has performed in recent seasons at the Skaneateles and Bargemusic Festivals, SUNY Performing Arts Center, Avery Fisher Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Cooper Union and The Ukrainian Institute. She has appeared as a guest artist on the faculty series for Bard College and Columbia University and has worked with members of the Brentano and Colorado String quartets, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Along with the Goliard ensemble, she toured the southeastern states giving concerts and master classes.

Passionate about teaching as well as performing, Ms. Lowenthal has worked with young musicians for over twenty years. She has been a member of the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Faculty since 2000 and joined the Hoff-Barthelson Music School faculty in 2014.

Born in Manhattan to a family of professional musicians, Ms. Lowenthal began piano studies at the age of four with her parents, Ronit Amir and Jerome Lowenthal. She frequently performs duo piano concerts with her father, and they can be heard together in a Bridge Records recording of Liszt’s Christmas Tree for piano, four hands.

She received her undergraduate degree from The Peabody Conservatory where she studied piano with Ann Schein and a Master’s degree from the Mannes College of Music where she studied piano with Diane Walsh.
