Here Comes The Bride – Costume Exhibit

Beginning on May 20th stop in to view Here Comes The Bridecostume exhibit at the Horace Greeley House, 100 King Street, Chappaqua.  It is the New Castle Historical Society’s newest exhibit.

Did you know that some wedding traditions are relatively modern, such as the diamond engagement ring, and others, like the wedding kiss, go back to the Romans.  The white wedding dress became a wedding tradition after Queen Victoria chose to wear a white gown when she married Prince Albert in 1840.  Up until then, royalty had worn silver dresses.  Until economics improved, women simply wore their “best dress” for their wedding and continued to wear it on special occasions afterward.

Come and view gorgeous wedding gowns from the Historical Society’s extensive costume collection and gowns on loan from friends of the Society!  On view will be a slate blue bustled gown, tea length wedding ensemble, a lace embellished 1970s gown and many more.

Other hours when the exhibit may be viewed are:  Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 1 – 4 PM or by appointment at 914-238-4666The exhibit will run through the mid-January 2015.  For more information please view the Society’s website:  www.newcastlehs.org
