Grandparents & Grandchildren: Fête with Babar – The Story of Babar the Elephant by Francis Poulenc

A perfect day out for Grandma, Grandpa and the little ones! Take a brief I Spy the Rosen House tour and discover some of the treasures that Caramoor’s founders Walter and Lucie Rosen collected.  After the tour, join us for a performance of Poulenc’s Babar in the Music Room with pianist Jeewon Park and narrator Benjamin Luxon. To conclude a lovely afternoon, enjoy a fête (or as we say “celebration”) in the charming Summer Dining Room with mini sandwiches and treats galore. Reserve your place now as this special event always sells out!

Based on the popular illustrated children’s book, Babar tells the story of a sweet baby elephant who overcomes early hardships to become King of the Elephants and live happily with his cousins in the forest. Poulenc’s score, completed in 1945 for piano and narrator and written for the young children of Poulenc’s cousins, is full of beautifully expressive, self-contained passages such as the Lullaby, Reverie, Nocturne, and others.
