Gothic Castles on the Hudson: the Making of Knoll/Lyndhurst

Lyndhurst and Downton Abbey? Join historian Peter Watson as he discusses the surprising connections between the two and showcases other castles on the Hudson.

For all those Downton Abbey fans, Peter Watson discusses the many links between Lyndhurst and the fictitious Downton Abbey. Watson highlights the development of architect Alexander Jackson Davis’ castle style for villas in the Hudson Valley and how these relate to English prototypes, including Highclere Castle, the filming location of the Downton Abbey television show. Watson will give a slide lecture showing some of the loveliest properties designed by Davis in the Hudson Valley. Watson is one of the most engaging and provocative speakers, presenting the Hudson Valley in a new light.
