Opening Reception and Gallery Talk | Hormonamalies: Interactive Inflatable Sculpture

An Opening Reception and Gallery Talk for “Hormonamalies: Interactive Inflatable Sculpture Series” will take place on Monday, March 5 from 6-8pm

As part of the Women’s History Month Celebration, Iona College Council on the Arts presents “Hormonamalies: Interactive Inflatable Sculpture Series” – on view February 26 – March 28.

Artist: Beth Giacummo

Hormonamalies (Hormone Anomalies) visually translates the function and/or underproduction of hormones specifically associated with physical traits that distinguish women and men and play a vital role in our development as individuals as well as within our relationships.

Hormones explored in this application include Oxytocin, Testosterone and Serotonin. The translation and interpretation of the emotive qualities are visually represented through inflatable forms with which the viewer can interact.

Viewers are encouraged to interact with each work, to cuddle, to touch, to squeeze or to caress. Through the use of transitional colored light and olfactory elements each piece becomes a multi-sensory experience that evokes the feelings associated with the specific hormone emotively translated.

Each work in the series Hormonamalies carries a title in the language derived from a specific travel experience as it relates to the original conception of the form.
