From Darkness into Light: Shorts Program

An allegory for the human condition, these four award-winning films from 2014 serve as a cathartic journey from the darkness of despair towards the light of hope:

Tzniut: A gripping portrait of the codes of sex and silence in a Brooklyn ultra-Orthodox community (Dir.David Formentin).

A Trip to the Other Planet: A haunting animated testimony from the Auschwitz survivor and writer known as Ka-Tzetnik 135633 (Dir.Tom Kless).

Death and the Maiden: The Holocaust-era artist Charlotte Salomon as seen through her painting series “Life? Or Theater?” (Dir.Yael Lotem).

Salomea’s Nose: A charming tragicomedy about fate, love, and the power of facial disfigurement (Dir.Susan Korda).

Both screenings will be introduced by Festival Associate Programmer Carrie Barnhouse.
