Franco American Fiddling

An evening of Franco-American fiddle music for contra dance featuring fiddle master, Daniel Boucher.  Contra dance instruction and calling by Bill Fischer. Presented in association with the Alliance Francaise of Westchester.

As a trio, the Daniel Boucher et Ses Bons Amis performs the music of French speaking province of Quebec with a deep respect for the tradition but with a look towards the future. The varied and diverse musical backgrounds of the musicians offer an exciting and fresh approach not only to traditional Quebec tunes but also to their interpretation of original tunes composed by Daniel Boucher.

Daniel Boucher is a dynamic fiddler musician from Bristol, Connecticut who plays the French Canadian fiddle tunes which he has absorbed from family and community in southern New England and Quebec. Also a fine singer and composer of traditional-style songs, Daniel has revitalized French Canadian folk music in his home state by starting his own French Folk music jam session called “Jam Français”, organizing very popular soirées, dance parties, and seasonal celebrations including his annual Maple Sugar Party, “Le Party de Sucre”. Daniel has performed with New England-based French Canadian music groups such as Chanterelle and the Beaudoin Family, and with singer Josée Vachon. Performances include the Quebec 400 celebrations in Quebec City in 2008, dance parties at Le Foyer in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, the Blackstone River Theater in Cumberland RI, French Day at the State Capitol in Hartford. In 2011 Daniel was selected to perform at the American Folklife Center as part of its Homegrown: Music of America series, and also at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage. He also performed at the 2012 American Folk Festival in Bangor, Maine, as well as the American Folk Festival in Lowell, Massachusetts, and Canadian folk festivals in Joliette and Sutton, Quebec.
