Family Reading Workshops: Exploring African-American Traditions an Experiences through Picture Books

In conjunction with our exhibit of James Ransome’s illustrations, families are invited to discover the beauty and messages gained from children’s picture with African-American themes. Vicki Rashbaum will lead the sessions for parents in the library’s Meeting Room, while their children (ages Pre-K through Grade 5 only) will be engaged in the stories in the children’s room (the library is closed on Wednesday evenings). Ms. Rashbaum, a social worker at Barnard School, has been inspiring children and parents to enjoy reading (and they have inspired her!) for the past 20 years. Free. Participants need not attend all three sessions, but space is limited and registration is necessary. Please call (914) 813-3706.
