Cultural Arts Day

Enjoy lively music from the West African group Fakoli Dance & Drum created by Fode Sissoko, an educational organization of music, drum, dance and cultural exchange. Fakoli means “the ancestor” in Mandinko, Fode’s native language.  They will teach children and adults some traditional rhythms on the djembe drums. 

Rajiv Purohit and The Haveli Dancers is a Kathak ensemble based in NYC performing traditional dances from India. A beautiful expressional art form involving mime and math, Kathak originated in the Hindu Temples and evolved in the Moghul courts of India transcending
religious boundaries.

Learn to make sushi with Yoshimi Arai, the principal of Magokoro New York. She is an expert in the fine arts of Japanese culinary presentations and handmade design accessories.

There will be arts and crafts for children – make sand paintings, (rangoli), learn to write their names in Hindu, mehndi (henna tattoos), Indian sari dressing and more.
