Considering the Arts #7: Cornelia Cotton on How to Publish Your Own Book

Cornelia Cotton, one of the co-founders of the Croton Council on the Arts in 1976, an award-winning photographer, writer, gallery owner and a multi-talented person, has had a varied career and been active in many the community’s activities and art scene.

Her interest in local history led her to write the booklet ”They Lived in Croton,” an index of Croton’s visual artists.  She also writes an occasional column on the arts in Croton for The Gazette.  Her self-published book Stepping Stones is a collection of related stories from her life.

Cornelia will talk about her experience publishing her book, “Stepping Stones”, and will address: why talk about books if people don’t read anymore?; what is a book, and why is it worth publishing and keeping?; how a book is published by a publisher; self-publishing:  Commercial companies vs. doing it yourself; about doing it yourself; the manuscript; editing; copy editing; design; important details; the cover and more; the printer.
