Concert Series Scarsdale Congregational Church


 Daniel Moore, baritone, and Kevin Koai, pianist, perform “Die schone Mullerin” by Franz Schubert.   Hailed for his “warm” and “voluminous” sound by the South Florida Classical Review, baritone Dan Moore is a sought-after performer of both solo and choral classical music, having appeared in many of the staples of the vocal repertoire including bass soloist in performances of Bach’s B Minor Mass, Johannes Passion, and Cantata BWV 205, Mozart’s Requiem (in a new completion by Gregory Spears); Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass; Handel’s  Messiah, and Faure’s Requiem.  Recent engagements in 2014 have included performances of Mozart’s C Minor Mass, Handel’s Coronation Anthems, Purcelll’s Hymn to St. Cecilia, a one-on-a-part B minor mass and St. John Passion, Handel’s Israel in Egypt, and music of the French Baroque.  Dan has performed throughout the United States and Asia with groups including the Grammy nominated ensemble Seraphic Fire, Spire Chamber Ensemble, The American Baroque Orchestra, Yale Schola Cantorium (including concert tours in Japan, Singapore, and Burma), Yale Voxtet, and The St. Thomas 5th Avenue Choir of Men and Boys.  He has also worked with many of the world’s most prominent conductors such as Barthold Kuijken, David Hill, Maasaki Suzuki, Simon Carrington, Erwin Ortner, Christopher Robinson, Stefan Parkman, and Andrew Megill.  Dan received his Bachelor of Music degree at Temple University, where he studied under renowned baritone Dr. William Stone and bass-baritone Eric Owens.  He completed his Masters of Music degree at the Yale School of Music where he worked with tenor Hames Taylor.  While at Yale he also received a certificate in early music, oratorio and chamber ensemble from the Institute of Sacred Music.  

Pianist, singer and scholar Kevin Koai holds a BA in Music and English from Stanford University and an MA and MPhil in Music History fro Yale University.  While at Stanford, he studied piano with Dr. Frederick Weldy, with additional coaching in collaborative piano from Laura Dahl.  An avid choral tenor, he has sung with the Stanford Chamber Choral, Yale Schola Cantorium, and the Schola Antiqua of St. Thomas’s Episcopal Church in New Haven Connecticut.   His academic awards include the Prize for Advanced Study in the Humanities at Stanford and the Richard J. Franke Fellowship at Yale.
