Coldworking Basics

Over the course of this two day class, students will learn how to safely use a variety of coldworking tools to shape and bevel the edges of a fused glass piece, as well as how to sand and grind the top and bottom surfaces of a kilnformed object. Students will be introduced to the tile saw, belt sander, lap wheel, angle grinder, loose grit, lathe, diamond hand laps and sandblaster through hands-on experience with each tool. The class will also include a discussion on the effects of fire polishing cold worked surfaces. Students will leave class with two samples, and are qualified to come back to participate in our Coldworking Open Studio.
