Class: Hybrid: The Synthesis of Form, Image and Texture, with Silvia Levenson

Glass is particularly interesting as a sculptural medium because its surface extends inwards: we can see both the exterior and the interior of the material. As such, we can create a powerful relationship between the texture of the outer surface, imagery within the material, and the overall form of a given object. Students in this workshop will explore how to embed photographs, drawings and text in kilncast glass. Methods used will include image transfer with decals and screen printing, moldmaking and firing open-faced kilncastings. The instructor will guide students in how to create a meaningful synthesis of these possibilities through lectures, demonstration, and discussion.

Wednesday-Saturday 10am-5pm, Sunday 10am-1pm
