Steffi Nossen Dance Foundation Presents Choreography Showcase Sunday, November 20 at SUNY Purchase Dance Theatre Laboratory
Works by Emerging and Established Choreographers Featured

The Steffi Nossen Dance Foundation’s annual choreography showcase will take place on Sunday, November 20 at 3:00 pm at the SUNY Purchase Dance Theatre Laboratory. It will feature the work of emerging and established choreographers post-performance Q&A. This performance brings professional artists from Westchester County and the tri-state area for an extraordinary afternoon of dance.

Choreographer and dance educator Jessica DiMauro, Steffi Nossen Dance Foundation Artistic Director, is the showcase producer. A Steffi Nossen alumna, her work has been shown at venues throughout the area. Her company, DiMauro Dance has been selected to perform at numerous festivals and curated showcases including White Wave’s COOL NY Dance Festival, and The HATCH. Ms. DiMauro is on the dance faculty of Montclair State College. She will reprise an excerpt of her 2006 work, “Lala Salama”.

Featured on the program will be work by choreographers Maxine Steinman, Indah Walsh, Deb Meunier, Gierre Godley, Caterina Rago and Matthew James.
Maxine Steinman a performer, choreographer, and teacher whose career spans over 25 years, has presented her choreography in numerous festivals and venues such as Joyce Soho, The 92ndStreet Y Harkness Dance Festival, the Westfest Dance Festival, the American Dance Guild Festival, DUMBO, the Battery Dance Festival, and throughout Europe and Asia. A resident of the River Towns, she is a former principal dancer with Alvin Ailey’s American Dance Theater and Martha Graham Dance Company. Jack Anderson and Jennifer Dunning of the New York Times have called her choreography “ingenious” and a “little jewel”.

Gierre Godley is Artistic Director of PROJECT 44, an all-male company that has toured work in the tri-state area and throughout Europe. Deb Meunier will present excerpts from “And That Ain’t All’, which she describes as a sensuous, playful romp that blends the borders of modern, jazz, and Broadway styles of moving to a complex score that weaves classical and jazz traditions by Japanese composer Takashi Yoshimatsu. Catarina Rago, originally from Italy, completed the Professional Training Program at Martha Graham School. In 2009 she joined the Martha Graham Dance Company in “Clytemnestra” and toured Italy in the original cast of “Cercando Picasso”,”Baccanti” and “Prometeo. Mathew James comes from the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians, a tribe located in Santa Ynez, CA. He has been heavily influenced by the tribal elements of inclusion, community, teamwork, cooperation, and contribution that he believes is a strong necessity in creative artmaking. These values are integral and potent within the mission goals of U R B A N / T R I B E which creates and will perform work based upon cultural, societal, and political notions that densely penetrate each life within our population.

Indah Walsh has been commissioned by the Steffi Nossen Dance Foundation to create a new work for the program. Ms. Walsh, who holds a BFA from the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance and an MFA from the Tisch School of the Arts, she is known for vivid, image driven and emotionally compelling works which have been seen in dance festivals throughout the tri-state area.
The Steffi Nossen Dance Company is a group of pre-professional young dancers, selected by audition to the storied performance group and representing eight Westchester communities.

Ms. DiMauro will wrap up the program with an always lively Q&A with choreographers, dancers and audience members.
