Cassatt String Quartet

The Westchester Chamber Music Society is proud to have the Cassatt String Quartet perform, once again, for our members and other guests.  This Manhattan based Quartet is acclaimed as one of America’s outstanding ensembles, and has performed throughout North America, Europe, and the Far East, with appearances at New York’s Alice Tully Hall and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Tanglewood Music Theater, the Kennedy Center and Library of Congress in Washington, DC, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris and Maeda Hall in Tokyo. The Quartet has been presented on major radio stations such as National Public Radio’s Performance Today, Boston’s WGBH, New York’s WQXR and WNYC, and on Canada’s CBC Radio and Radio France.
The Cassatt celebrated its twentieth anniversary in 2006 with a series of world-premieres and a performance at the Library of Congress on the Library’s Stradivarius Collection. Named three times by The New Yorker magazine’s Best Of…CD Selections, the Cassatt has recorded for the Koch, Naxos, New World, Point, CRI, Tzadik and Albany labels and is named for the celebrated American impressionist painter Mary Cassatt.

The Westchester Chamber Music Society is celebrating its 64th season in 2014-2015. Led by Dr. Caroline Bauman, a pediatrician and long-time Rye resident who has been president of the society for the past 30 years, The Westchester Chamber Music Society has been committed to bringing first-rate artists to Westchester, which included the Tokyo String Quartet in their Westchester premiere and renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Long time subscribers are joined by new members and many other guests to enjoy the very personal experience of performance that chamber music provides. The Westchester Chamber Music Society concerts are presented on Sunday afternoons at Congregation Emanu-El of Westchester in Rye, whose celebrated acoustics make it a desirable venue for internationally renowned musicians as well as emerging artists. The Society presents five concerts a year, three in the fall and two in the spring. After each concert, audience members are invited at no charge to a reception at which they can meet and speak with the musicians. “We are thrilled to provide unique occasions for Westchester residents and other attendees to connect with these very talented performers. People can ask questions about the pieces, share their thoughts or simply say hello. It is a very special opportunity for them to socialize with the musicians and others who share their love and appreciation of the music.” said Dr. Bauman.
