Caleb Teicher & Nic Gareiss

Among the most celebrated contemporary dancers of our day, Caleb Teicher & Nic Gareiss add innovation to America’s rich music and dance traditions in a captivating performance.

Teicher & Gareiss blur the boundaries of different genres by exploring song, improvisation and percussive dance. Fusing jazz, tap, lindy hop, Appalachian clogging, Irish step dance and swing, they create a breathtaking evening of expressive movement rooted in time and place, yet uniquely their own.

Teicher, a choreographer, performer, director and teacher based in New York City, has been hailed by The New York Times as “a sleek dancer who possesses a beguiling combination of a relaxed upper body with switchblade feet.”

As founder of CT&CO, Caleb Teicher has been commissioned by New York City Center, The Guggenheim’s “Works & Process” program, and the Joyce Theater. His work was featured by NPR Music, Vogue and Interview Magazine. Winner of the Bessie award for Outstanding Individual Performance, he most recently partnered with vocal percussionist Chris Celiz for a performance at Lincoln Center Out of Doors, and his collaboration with Conrad Tao, “More Forever,” made The New York Times’s “Best of Dance 2018” list.

Nic Gareiss was lauded by The Boston Globe as “the most inventive and expressive step dancer on the scene.” He has toured with luminaries of contemporary music and dance including the Chieftains and The Gloaming and was commissioned by the Cork Opera House to perform solo percussive dance pieces honoring the composer Steve Reich. Recognized as a master traditional artist by Michigan State Museum’s Traditional Arts Program, Gareiss draws from several percussive dance traditions, weaving together playful improvisation, traditional footwork and vocalization.

“Nic and I are kindred spirits,” said Teicher. “Though we work in different cultural traditions, we have more similarities than differences. We bring out unique elements of each other’s work and sharing the stage with him is pure joy.”

Following the hour-long performance and intermission (-is that correct? your note said ‘interval’’), the performers will host a Q&A session, sharing insights into the creative process and the inspiration behind their craft.
