Bye Bye Birdie

Participants spend their mornings in workshops with Academy Staff and special guest teachers. In addition to acting, singing and dancing, past workshops have focused on audition techniques, makeup design and application, prop design, playwriting and improv, among others. These workshops flow into afternoon sessions, where student actors rehearse a full production intended for public performances, overseen by a creative team of industry professionals. Students learn to apply techniques taught in morning workshops towards their performance. Each session culminates with Friday and Saturday evening performances on the WPPAC stage. Running from July 27-August 21, this workshop is open to students grades 5-12.  Before and after care is available!

Bye Bye Birdie: Young Performers’ Edition is a satire that tells the story of a rock and roll singer, Conrad Birdie, who is about to be inducted into the army.  Albert Peterson, his Agent, and Albert’s Faithful secretary Rose Alvarez, concoct one final national publicity plan before Conrad’s induction.  Conrad will bid a typical American teen-age girl goodbye with an all-American kiss.  Bye Bye Birdie is a Satir crafted with the fondest affection.  It gives an insight into the everyday life that is very much part of us all.  It is the tops in imagination and frivolity; a show that will be enjoyed by the cast as much as the audience.  This show is good old fashioned fun.
