Battle of White Plains 243rd Anniversary Commemoration

On Sunday, October 27th the White Plains Historical Society will present its annual commemoration of the Battle of White Plains fought in 1776, 243 years ago.   The festive event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (flag raising ceremony at 1:00 p.m.) at Jacob Purdy House, 60 Park Avenue in White Plains – a farm house built in 1721 that served as General George Washington’s headquarters during the famous Battle. Colonial soldier re-enactors and General Washington, himself, will be there to greet you.  Plus colonial era craft displays and native American exhibits. The White Plains High School marching band will play our national anthem at the flag raising ceremony at 1:00 p.m.   Come see for yourself where General George Washington stood as he fought for freedom and self-determination right here in White Plains in October of 1776 and again in July-August of 1778. Be sure to attend and enjoy visiting and learning about White Plains’ place in history.
