Award-winnin Poet Alan Shapiro to Read from His New Collection at Katonah Poetry Series

The Katonah Poetry Series warmly welcomes Alan Shapiro, who is gifting us with this reading as a much-needed fundraiser for our series. We often ask ourselves what gets lost in translation—not just between languages, but also between what we experience and what we are able to say about it. The visionary poems of Alan Shapiro’s latest collection, Against Translation, invite us to consider: what is loss, in translation? Shapiro is the author of thirteen collections of poetry, including Reel to Reel(2014), a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. He has received of numerous poetry prizes, including two NEA awards, a Guggenheim fellowship, and the O.B. Hardison Jr. Poetry Prize. A member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, he is the William R. Kenan Jr. Distinguished Professor of English and Comparative Literature at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Join us in the Garden Room of the Katonah Village Library to hear this extraordinary voice! Audience Q&A and book-signing reception with the author to follow the reading.
