Aspects: Two Visions in Black and White

– The Mamaroneck Artists Guild newest exhibition, “Aspects: Two Visions in Black and White”, features the work of two outstanding photographers. Rita Baunok’s “Gypsy Row” series and Ruth Raskin’s “Road Trip: New Mexico” will be on exhibit beginning Tuesday, April 1, 2014, and continue through Saturday, April 26, 2014.

The majority of the Romungros, the Hungarian Gypsies, still live segregated on the “Gypsy Row”, located in Olcsvaapati in the county of Szabolcs Szatmar Bereg, Hungary. There are 12 million Roma people scattered around the world. Hungary is at the fourth place after Romania, Bulgaria and Spain in terms of estimated figures for the number of Gypsies resident in 38 European countries. The Gypsy population forms the largest ethnic minority numbering between 400,000 and 600,000. Rita Baunok’s black and white photos provide the viewer with a glimpse into the world of this fascinating population.

Thirteen rolls of black and white film, fourteen days and more than 1,500 miles of images capture Ruth Raskin’s vision of what she refers to as “the land of enchantment” in her exhibition “Road Trip: New Mexico”.

Meet the artists at a reception on Saturday, April 5, 2014, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
