Artist Talk: Sharon Louden
Listen in as artist Sharon Louden discusses her work and signature, whimsical use of line.
Loudon’s paintings, drawings, animations, sculpture and installations are often centered on lines or linear abstractions and their implied or actual movement. Her work, Yellow Tails (2004)—a sculpture of monofilament line, cage clips, and glue—is on view as part of The Friends at 50: Selections from the Collection exhibition at the Neuberger Museum of Art this spring.

About the Artist
Sharon Louden is an artist, educator, advocate for artists, editor of the Living and Sustaining a Creative Life series of books, and the Artistic Director of the Chautauqua Visual Arts at Chautauqua Institution. Louden’s work is held in major public and private collections including the Whitney Museum of American Art, National Gallery of Art, Neuberger Museum of Art, Arkansas Arts Center, Yale University Art Gallery, Weatherspoon Art Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, among others. In 2021, Henry Art Gallery at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA added a drawing to their collection. Her work has been exhibited in numerous venues including the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, the Drawing Center, Neuberger Museum of Art, Weisman Art Museum, Philbrook Museum of Art, National Gallery of Art, Birmingham Museum of Art, Weatherspoon Art Museum and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. In addition, she continues to produce site-specific permanent public and private commissions across the country, including recent permanent installations completed in New York City, Oklahoma City, San Francisco and Washington, DC. Louden is also active on Boards and committees of various not-for-profit art organizations and volunteers her time to artists to further their careers. Sharon is a consultant for Creative Capital and the Joan Mitchell Foundation. She is also a member of the Artist Advisory board of the Carolyn Glasoe Bailey Foundation and on the Franconia Sculpture Park’s Board of Trustees. She lives in Queens and works in DUMBO, Brooklyn, NY.

About the Exhibition
The Friends at 50: Selections from the Collection is a celebration of one very important aspect of the work of the Friends of the Neuberger Museum of Art, a dedicated group of local, regional, and national supporters who help the museum grow and thrive. The exhibition is comprised of major works of art that have come into the Neuberger Museum’s collection through the efforts of the Friends. The objects are remarkable in their breadth and depth and show aspects of the marvelous generosity of the Friends organization over the last fifty years.
The exhibition is on view March 9 through June 12, 2022.
In order to be admitted to the museum, visitors 12-and-up must show proof of full vaccination or negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of visit. Visitors under 12 may enter only if accompanied by an adult who can show proof of full vaccination or negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of visit. Visitors must wear masks, snuggly fitting and covering both nose and mouth, at all times while in the museum.
