ANTHONY NEWMAN AND EUGENIA ZUKERMAN PRESENT MUSIQUE DE FRANCE

The inaugural season of The Sanctuary Series, 5 extraordinary piano recitals presented in the pastoral setting of northern Westchester’s historic hamlet of South Salem, NY, continues Sunday, March 30, 2014–with “Musique de France” featuring Anthony Newman and Eugenia Zukerman– A celebration of France’s great composers from antiquity to the twentieth century, featuring America’s leading keyboardist, Anthony Newman, with the highly acclaimed Eugenia Zuckerman, a consummate flutist and Emmy award winning broadcast journalist.

Mary Jane Newman, Minister of Music at the South Salem church, and Rev. Dr. Chip Andrus, the Church’s pastor, set as their goal for the series to present some of the world’s most accomplished pianists through partnerships with other small venues in order to provide visiting artists multiple performance opportunities while in the New York area. To that end, Ms. Newman, an accomplished conductor, pianist and organist, has been working with Yashar Yaslowitz, director of the Carnegie Concert Series in Nyack, NY, to bring the series to life.

Upcoming concerts through the balance of the spring are:

April 13, 2014 – “Chopin by Candlelight” with Oxana Mikhailoff—Winner of the International Rachmaninoff Piano Competition, performing Chopin as it is meant to be heard.

April 27, 2014 – “Piano Symphonique” with Frederic Chiu—Beethoven Symphony No.5, and Symphony No. 6 “Pastoral,” enjoyed as they were first heard in small towns throughout Europe, featuring Yamaha artist Frederic Chiu playing the Liszt transcription of the Fifth, and, a duet arrangement of the “Pastoral” with Yashar Yaslowitz.

May 11, 2014 – “The Bells of Moscow” with Alexander Moutouzkine—Rachmaninoff performed with breathtaking artistry by Mr. Moutouzkine, a top prize winner at numerous International Piano Competitions.

All performances will take place at 3 PM at the South Salem Presbyterian Church, 111 Spring Street, South Salem, New York 10590.  A reception with artists follows each performance.
