An Evening with Jill Bialosky, Susana H. Case, & Caroline Smith


Poetry Will Save Your Life (2017) by Jill Bialosky is an unconventional and inventive coming-of-age memoir organized around forty-three remarkable poems by poets such as Robert Frost, Emily Dickinson, Wallace Stevens and Sylvia Plath, from a critically acclaimed New York Times bestselling author and poet. Her collections of poems are Subterranean (Alfred A. Knopf, 2001) and The End of Desire (1997). Bialosky is also the author of the novel House Under Snow (2002) and The Life Room (2007) and co-editor, with Helen Schulman, of the anthology Wanting A Child(1998). Her poems and essays appear in The New Yorker, O Magazine, Paris Review, The Nation, The New Republic, Kenyon Review, American Poetry Review among other publications. Bialosky has received a number of awards including the Elliot Coleman Award in Poetry. She is currently an editor at W. W. Norton & Company and lives in New York City.

Susana H. Case is the author of five books of poetry, most recently, Drugstore Blue, from Five Oaks Press, and 4 Rms w Vu, from Mayapple Press, as well as four chapbooks. Her first collection, The Scottish Café, from Slapering Hol Press, was re-released in a dual-language English-Polish version, Kawiarnia Szkocka, by Opole University Press in Poland. Her poems appear widely in magazines and anthologies. Case is a Professor and Program Coordinator at the New York Institute of Technology in New York City.

Caroline Smith was born in Ilford, Essex. She graduated with a BA  degree in Fine Arts  from Goldsmith’s College, London University. Her first publication was the much-praised long narrative poemEdith published by Flambard Press. Her debut collection Thistles of the Hesperides was shortlisted for the Aldeburgh Festival First Collection prize. Her new collection, The Immigration Handbookwas published by Seren in summer 2016.
