An Evening with Jay Deshpande, Phillis Levin, & Anton Yakovlev


Phillis Levin is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College and the Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins University. She is the author of five poetry collections: Temples and Fields (University of Georgia Press, 1988), winner of the Poetry Society of America’s Norma Farber First Book Award; The Afterimage (Copper Beech Press, 1995); Mercury (Penguin, 2001); May Day (Penguin, 2008); and Mr. Memory & Other Poems (Penguin, 2016. Levin’s honors include a Fulbright Scholar Award to Slovenia, the Amy Lowell Poetry Travelling Scholarship, a Bogliasco Fellowship, the Richard Hugo Prize from Poetry Northwest, and grants from the Ingram Merrill Foundation, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Jay Deshpande is the author of The Rest of the Body (YesYes Books, 2017) and Love the Stranger (YesYes Books, 2015). He holds degrees from Harvard and Columbia and teaches at Columbia and Rutgers.
Born in Moscow, Russia, Anton Yakovlev studied filmmaking and poetry at Harvard University. He is the author of two chapbooks and a full-length collection, Ordinary Impalers (Kelsay Books, 2016). His book of poetry translations by Sergei Esenin is forthcoming from Sensitive Skin Books in 2017.
